The Avila writer Félix Sánchez passed away this Saturday at the age of 69 after several days of being hospitalized and battling a lung infection.

“Ah, brother, my legs have given out and everything has turned dark. ‘I love you so much’: with time, one discovers that it is the only phrase worth feeling proud of when we say it at the right moment. Fortunately, I am sure you heard me say it to you repeatedly. I will continue to need your protection and your embrace now more than ever, because once again I am so small that I don’t know how to take a step, think, or speak. Rest, you did well,” wrote the poet Francis Sánchez on Facebook, brother of the deceased and director of the independent media Árbol Invertido.

For the Matanzas poet Yanira Marimón, Sánchez was "one of the most beautiful people I have known in my life."

“I know you couldn't take it any longer, which is why you've left. I assume that's the price that almost all good people must pay, to depart too soon, without fanfare, in silence, still, with infinite gratitude for the life that was, for the time we were allowed to live, breathe, love, and leave some mark. I suppose that wherever you are now, you remain at peace and that a sweet tranquility surrounds your kind soul,” he said.
