Omar René Águila, a 69-year-old man whose country of origin has not been disclosed, was recently arrested for murdering the man with whom his wife had been having an affair for five years, according to county authorities.

The violent incident occurred on July 12 at the Northside Shopping Center, located at 7900 Northwest 27th Avenue, where the victim was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

Although he was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, he was declared dead there, confirmed by both NBC Miami and the Miami Herald.

According to the arrest report cited by both outlets, the extramarital relationship began in 2019, but it wasn't until April of this year that Águila learned of the romantic connection between his wife and the victim.

At that moment, the now-accused demanded that his wife end the romance.

Two days before the crime, on July 10th, the man showed up at Águila's residence with the intention of speaking with his wife, leading to the first confrontation between the two men.

However, the incident did not escalate at that moment.

On the day of the murder, Omar René Águila was at the shopping mall with his wife and son.

According to police reports, the lover appeared at the location again, seemingly to deliver food to a friend who worked there, and tried to speak with the woman once more.

It was then that the son of the Eagle informed his father of the man's presence.

Mounted on a blue scooter, Águila headed towards the lover's car. Within seconds, a verbal confrontation ensued, which ended when Águila drew a gun from his waist and shot his rival multiple times, resulting in his death.

Everything was recorded on a surveillance camera. Initially, Águila was arrested at the scene with a gun in his possession, and the agents found four bullet casings.

However, he was released "pending further investigation," as his lawyer argued that the shooting was in self-defense and that Águila thought the victim was trying to pull out a weapon when he bent down.

However, the police did not find any weapon in the deceased's vehicle.

The new evidence, including the security video and the absence of a weapon on the part of the victim, led the authorities to issue a formal arrest warrant on July 25.

In addition to facing a second-degree murder charge, Águila was accused of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a condition that legally prohibited him from carrying weapons.

During the hearing before the judge held last Friday, the defendant was denied bail.
