Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, known as El Cangrejo and grandson of former president Raúl Castro, was seen on Sunday night at the concert of reggaeton artists Dany Ome and Kevincito El 13, held at the St. Pauli restaurant bar in Santiago de Cuba.
The images were shared on Instagram by the account un_martitodurako8_live_oficial, which accompanied the photos with a direct message: “Even if you sneaked into my concert yesterday, you can't escape, crab. And by the way, since I know you’re going to see this post, tell your grandfather he’s a murderer.”
Before the images appeared, independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada had reported on Facebook the presence of Raúl's grandson at the location.
"The vicinity of the St. Pauli bar, where Dany Ome, Kevincito el 13, and the Crab (grandson of Raúl Castro) are located, is completely guarded by police and plainclothes agents," he said in another post.
The concert, which took place on July 26, was part of the "Todo X Santiago" program amid the Cuban regime's "celebrations" for National Rebellion Day.
Days earlier, Dany Ome and Kevincito El 13 sparked controversy after being announced for a concert alongside Juan Guillermo Almeida, son of the late commander Juan Almeida Bosque, which provoked strong criticism from the exile community. Ultimately, the artists rescheduled their performance for Sunday the 27th, attempting to distance themselves from the official event.
This Sunday the 27th, Dany Ome and Kevincito El 13 closed the "Rumbón Mayor" in the Alameda with a street concert. After the show, Dany Ome posted a message of gratitude on Instagram.
“The concert featuring Dany Ome and Kevincito El 13 kicks off at the 'Todo x Santiago' stage in the Santiago de Cuba promenade,” the communicator Mayeta stated in a post where he added that, “despite the controversy, the criticisms from the exile community, and the questions surrounding their connection to the political-cultural project 'Todo x Santiago,' Dany Ome and Kevincito El 13 are already performing on stage in the Alameda, closing the so-called 'Rumbón Mayor' as part of the patched-up Carnival 2025 or the 'Motivito' carnival.”
Mayeta also emphasized the social contrast in her post: “Under the protection of state security and in a city where many families remain in the dark due to power outages, the urban duo performs for a select audience, while the people—out of the spotlight—struggle to survive without water, food, or hope.” She concluded with a critical reflection: “The music plays, yes... but the echoes of indignation do too. Santiago does not forget that forced joy does not erase the darkness surrounding it.”
Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro is the grandson of Raúl Castro and the son of the late General Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja and Déborah Castro Espín. He holds the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Ministry of the Interior and is part of his grandfather's personal security team.
It is not the first time that El Cangrejo has been seen at parties. In 2017, he was spotted in Varadero dancing alongside Gente de Zona wearing a custom New York Yankees shirt that featured his nickname.
Meanwhile, Cuba is experiencing a severe economic crisis with prolonged power outages, shortages of food and medicine, which contrasts sharply with images of Raúl Castro's grandson enjoying the Santiago night under heavy police protection.
