The Command 25 of the Holguín Fire Department extinguished a fire that broke out in a house in the Vista Alegre neighborhood of that eastern city this Thursday, according to preliminary reports.

According to the version of the incident published on Facebook by the profile , linked to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), the firefighters' actions prevented the flames from spreading to nearby homes, “thus protecting the community and minimizing material damages.”

The note praised the "quick intervention and effective actions" of the command, but it neglected to mention whether there were any casualties and what material damage the property sustained.

In the comments on the post, a user identified as Vladimir Hernández criticized the omission of data and questioned the accuracy of the information published by the official page.

The man, a resident of the neighborhood, deemed the congratulation to the firefighters “hypocrisy,” because -he claimed- they arrived three hours later after he and other neighbors called them.

He stated that the two women living in the house, who have mental health issues, lost all their belongings in the fire, and also a family dog passed away.

With evident annoyance, the neighbor exclaimed: "Before thanking a body that is doing its duty, why not ask for help for those two women who (...) have mental health issues and have lost their home and personal belongings, their supply booklet... I think it would be better to say: 'Come on, people, anyone with a heart should go to where they are and bring them a change of clothes, money, food'."

"We need to help those two women; they have lost everything and can't wait for the government to assist them because we are going through critical times. However, we can help, at least with clothing and food. God will be grateful to us; I have faith in Him and in the Cubans who have a heart. Please help us, for God's sake, they have lost everything," she pleaded.

As of the time of publishing this note, the causes of the fire remain unknown.

Recent fires reported in homes across several provinces highlight the dangers posed by such events, many of which are exacerbated by power outages and instability, damage or recharging of electric vehicle batteries, use of firewood for cooking, and the lack of immediate response from firefighters.

The night before, a medium-sized fire in the municipality of San Luis, in Santiago de Cuba, left one resident with third-degree burns and a firefighter injured.

A mother and her two children were left only with the clothes they were wearing when a fire broke out in their home in the city of Guantánamo. The flames completely destroyed the family's material possessions.

As August began, a massive fire consumed a building at 17 and B, in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana.

At the end of July, a young man died burned while trying to save his mother and wife from the flames that consumed their home, caused by a candle during a blackout, in the heart of the historic center of Santiago de Cuba.
