New details regarding the tragic fire that occurred this Tuesday in the Camagüey neighborhood of La Borla have emerged in recent hours, in an attempt to clarify the causes of the explosion of two electric scooters that resulted in the death of a woman.

The fire occurred around 12:30 p.m. in a home located on Avenida de los Mártires, where a couple had left motorcycles charging inside the house during a power outage.

Although initial reports suggested that the explosion occurred after the power was restored, other official sources assert that there was still no electricity at the time of the incident, ruling out an overload due to voltage return.

The tragedy claimed the life of a woman, who was unable to escape the flames, while her husband managed to get out alive.

Neighbors reported that the firefighters took more than 30 minutes to arrive, causing significant frustration due to what they consider an ineffective and delayed response from emergency services. The community attempted to control the flames with makeshift means but were unsuccessful, they stated.

The official profiles, on the other hand, highlighted the crucial role of a young officer from the Ministry of Interior (MININT) who acted bravely amid the chaos and stated that firefighters arrived promptly.

The account of the heroic act by Captain Reinier Gimeno Muñoz, a young officer of MININT, states that he happened to be in the area at the time of the fire and did not hesitate to intervene.

"Reinier broke the gate of the door, took fire extinguishers from a nearby store, and entered the house without any protective gear. He managed to put out one of the motorbikes and prevent the flames from reaching the second floor," reported the Facebook profile "Yaliesky Rivero."

The captain also took part in the rescue of the man who was sheltering on the upper floor, risking his life to prevent further loss of life, he emphasized.

His uniform became unusable and his boots melted from the heat, in what the publication described as an action "beyond the call of duty."

Despite individual heroic efforts, the incident once again highlights the dangers of using lithium batteries at home under unsafe conditions, exacerbated by frequent power outages, the instability of the electrical system, and the limited responsiveness of emergency services in Cuba.
