The worker Michel Medina Gómez, 39 years old, one of the victims of the incident that occurred last Saturday at the Somos Jóvenes Cultural Center in Santa Clara, is recovering favorably after the surgical intervention he underwent for head injuries.
According to reported by the official journalist Henry Omar Pérez from the Cuban News Agency, Medina was admitted to the Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Hospital after a Computed Axial Tomography revealed an intraparenchymal hemorrhage and a subgaleal hematoma.
The operation allowed for the evacuation of a small cerebral hematoma, and after remaining stable in the postoperative period, he was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to a regular Neurosurgery room.
The head of that unit, Armando Caballero, stated that the patient has an adequate level of consciousness, while the hospital director, José Esteban Roig, ensured the availability of supplies and medications for the patient's care, Pérez emphasized.
The attack at the cultural center, which occurred last Saturday, shocked the city of Santa Clara. Two brothers were involved in a brawl at the venue and assaulted the workers present there.
As a result, an employee identified as Derlis Machado Terrero lost his life, while Medina Gómez and another worker were injured. The latter was discharged a few hours later.
The Minister of Domestic Trade, Betsy Díaz Velázquez, announced in a social media post that the assailants, identified as brothers, managed to escape.
Additionally, he emphasized that the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior in Villa Clara were investigating and focused on capturing the brothers.
Subsequently, journalist Mario Vallejo reported that he received the video of the exact moment of the crime and, due to the graphic nature of the material, he decided not to publish the full recording, although he shared screenshots showing blood on the floor and scenes of chaos.
According to the reporter, the alleged author of the homicide was identified as Roberto Carlos Rodríguez, known in the area as "jimagua," because he has a twin brother who was also present at the fight and was injured.
This Monday, it was reported that the alleged perpetrators of the violent incident that resulted in the death of a worker were captured by forces from the Ministry of the Interior.
Official journalist Henry Omar Pérez confirmed the news on Facebook and explained that the detention of those involved is the result of the investigative process opened following the crime.
According to the information, the arrested individuals –whose names were not revealed– will be brought before the courts in the coming days.
"There will never be impunity for those who commit crimes, especially for those who deny others the most precious good: life," reiterated the government spokesperson, who did not disclose the names of the detainees.
