Cuban-American Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) formally requested that the U.S. Department of State and the Department of the Treasury investigate companies in South Florida suspected of violating sanctions against the Cuban regime.

“Sanctions mean nothing if they are not enforced,” Salazar wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).

“I am asking the State Department and the Treasury to investigate the companies from South Florida suspected of evading U.S. sanctions and aiding the Cuban dictatorship. District 27 demands answers.”

Among the mentioned companies are those that offer tour packages to the island, home delivery services, logistics, and car sales, "evading sanctions" against the island.

The Republican lawmaker, representative of South Florida, has been one of the staunchest voices in Congress against rapprochement with Havana and has repeatedly stated that U.S. companies or those based in the U.S. that do business with entities linked to the regime are directly violating the law.

Salazar's request increases the pressure on federal authorities to investigate possible networks of sanctions evasion that may be financially benefiting the Cuban government.

The call comes amidst rising complaints from the exiled community in Miami about companies that allegedly use intermediaries to trade with Cuba, despite the restrictions imposed by Washington.

Several companies are dedicated to providing services for the island and have even been authorized by the regime for commercial activities.

In June of last year, a company based in Miami was authorized by the regime to establish commercial representation operations on the Island.

It is about Lux Sky Cargo, Inc., a company based at 8155 NW 67th Street in Miami-Dade County, which will be able to manage commercial representations in the Caribbean country, covering a wide range of products such as vehicles, parts, food, beverages, appliances, fuel, mobile phones, and refrigerated containers, among others.
