Nieves Rosa Castrillo Núñez, a 62-year-old woman who had been missing for several days, was found dead in a pond near Combinado del Este in Havana, where she worked as a lab technician.

Residing in Bacuranao, in the municipality of Guanabacoa, Nieves had been missing for three days after leaving her home for work, and she never returned.

According to the news portal La Tijera, her body was found “very close to Combinado del Este”, where her husband also works, and he is now cooperating with the investigation.

The authorities have reportedly made several arrests related to the case, although the aforementioned source did not provide any further details.

"It was good, she didn't deserve this."

Neighbors, family members, and friends have posted numerous messages of shock on social media. No one finds solace or understands how someone could violently attack an elderly woman known for her kind nature.

“There is no right to take the life of such a good person, a good daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, friend. May God keep you under His mantle, my friend, rest in peace,” wrote Misleybi Aguilar.

"He didn't deserve to die like this. Bacuranao is in mourning. I hope that the wretch who took your life is brought to justice," said another neighbor.

"They killed her over a motorcycle."

Although there is no official confirmation, several internet users coincided in noting that the brutal murder was allegedly motivated by the theft of a motorcycle.

Some reports also suggest that she was raped before being murdered.

"I think I was told that she was raped and killed over a motorcycle... I don't know if it's true, but in this country, there is no safety for anyone," commented an internet user.

"A senior lady, who should be at home in peace. How is it possible that they don't even respect her age?" lamented another commentator.

“The media is silent, the networks are shouting.”

One of the biggest criticisms is the silence of the official media, which has not reported anything on the case so far, while outrage spreads on social media.

"The mass media, all silent. In the face of so many murders occurring daily, the TV is reporting news that doesn't interest us. It's a shame"; "Here, we only find out about what is happening thanks to these independent pages. If it were up to the news broadcast, we would still be searching," two comments noted.

"Execution or this does not stop."

The crime has renewed calls for tougher laws. Many users are demanding the death penalty or life imprisonment for those responsible, tired of seeing criminals reoffend while the innocent perish.

"Here we need a wall for so many murderers. A life is worth more than any benevolent law"; "In the past, bicycle thieves would get 18 years. Now they kill and are out in three. There’s no respect like this"; "This is heading down the path of El Salvador before Bukele. We need a Bukele here, now," expressed three commentators in agreement.

"Justice is in debt."

Nieves was a mother, wife, neighbor, and friend. A woman loved by everyone, she worked with dedication and helped those in need. Her family searched for her tirelessly. Today, her community mourns her loss.

“She was no ordinary woman. She was a good, loved, and respected person. This has broken our hearts,” wrote Noemí Núñez Ruiz.

"A childhood friend, nearly family. Everything that has happened is very sad. I trust that all the weight of the law will fall upon these killers," reads another message.

Nieves Rosa Castrillo Núñez was murdered, thrown into a pond, and silenced by the official press.

"Bacuranao is in mourning. And Cuba too. The guilty must pay. May it never happen again," declared a commentator.

As of the closing of this note, there is no additional information about what happened.
