A Cuban woman has garnered empathy on TikTok after sharing her personal experience of moving from Virginia to Florida, despite warnings about the high cost of living. In a video posted on her profile @daimylydom, the young woman recounts the sacrifices involved in her decision and how, even with the challenges, she found reasons to feel at peace.

“They told me I was crazy, given how expensive rent and car insurance are”, she recounts in the video. “That was the first thing they told me when I decided to move to Florida.” However, far from regretting her decision, she insists it was worth it. “The money I pay monthly for rent includes the beach, the sand, the salt water, the most beautiful sunsets... and Cuban pizzas,” she states with nostalgia.

Daimyly recounts how she left her country, her family, her friends, her career, and the 26 years she lived under the same roof in Cuba. "I arrived in a completely unknown country to me, with a different language. Do you think I was going to stop starting over just by changing states?" she asks firmly. For her, moving to Florida was no less courageous than emigrating from Cuba.

Her story has resonated with many migrants who have undergone similar situations. In the comments on her video, dozens of people shared their experiences with frustrating moves to other states, such as Texas, Nevada, or Tennessee, and how they ended up returning to Florida due to their inability to adapt. Some expressed that, despite the high costs, they felt like they were "breathing again" upon their return.

There were also those who argued that living in Florida, although more expensive, is worth it for other factors: the climate, the culture, the language, the proximity to the Latin community, and the possibility of working in their field of study. For many, being surrounded by the familiar is a luxury that is not found in every state in the country.

In the comments, Daimyly responded to her followers and confirmed that she previously lived in Virginia, and that this is her first time in Florida. “We’re not exactly in Miami, but Florida is Florida,” she wrote. Her final message was clear: “If your decision today is to stay where you are or move, choose to move. Because every change you make from the heart is for the better.”
