A pregnant Cuban woman currently in Houston, Texas, appealed to the community in a heartbreaking testimony in which she claimed to have lost the savings she had set aside while living in rented accommodation in North Carolina.
The case was brought to light by the Cuban influencer @dairon_cano_aguila, who has become a key figure in giving voice to Cubans in vulnerable situations within the United States. On this occasion, he shared the young woman's testimony in a video that has sparked a wave of supportive reactions.
"I was living up there in Carolina, and at work, I couldn’t continue because of the work permit issue," the woman explained, in tears. Added to that were health problems related to her pregnancy, which led to her hospitalization.
She also claims that she lost $7,860 that she had managed to save while renting from a woman. When she contacted the police, she says they informed her that the process to investigate the case could take between two to three years. "The only thing I could do was wait and wait, and I no longer have any patience, I can’t do it anymore."
She is currently staying with friends in Houston, but she desires independence to raise her child. "I want to live alone, take care of my baby on my own… you don't feel the same when you don't have your own space," she stated.
During the meeting, she couldn't hold back her tears. "I thought you weren't going to come. You were my last hope. I called you, I wrote to everyone and nobody responded..." she said to the influencer as they embraced.
Dairon Cano, for his part, called on the community to support her financially. "This mother has gone through tough, difficult times. Anyone who can offer a little help for her baby that's on the way...", he requested in the recording.
The video has generated dozens of comments, many of them deeply moved by the situation. “Oh my God, it hurts so much; only those of us who are mothers know how painful it is,” wrote one user. “I will contribute whatever little I can,” remarked another. “Where should I send the money?” asked a third.
This new testimony adds to a long list of stories that @dairon_cano_aguila has shared in recent months, reflecting the harsh reality faced by many Cubans in the United States, especially women, single mothers, and entrepreneurs.
In July, it also highlighted the case of a Cuban mother in Tampa, who was left alone with three children and a husband seriously ill with heart disease.
Days before, I highlighted the story of a young entrepreneur fighting to save her pizzeria in Houston after six months without customers.
It also shared the story of a Cuban who works with Uber and Lyft in Tampa but is struggling to make ends meet and is desperately looking for a job.
In June, she shared the testimony of an entrepreneur in Miami who was robbed on the very day she opened her beauty salon, who requested support to attract clients and provide employment to other professionals in the field.
One of the most moving testimonies was that of a Cuban family in Tampa who lost everything in a fire while preparing for the arrival of a baby.
In all cases, the goal has been the same: to activate the Cuban community to help, even if it's just with a "little peso." The creator himself sums it up this way: "We are here to help each other."
