The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) requested the public's assistance this Thursday in identifying a man connected to a shooting that claimed the life of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, one of President Donald Trump's closest allies.

The FBI office in Salt Lake City shared two images of the suspect on social media and set up the line 1-800-CALL-FBI, along with a digital portal, to receive information that could help identify him.

"The FBI is asking for the public's help in identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at the University of Utah Valley," the agency stated in a release published on X.

The federal agency even reported in another tweet that they are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of those responsible for Kirk's murder.

The murder of Kirk

Charlie Kirk, 31 years old, was shot on Wednesday while participating in an event at Utah Valley University. The gunfire, coming from a nearby building, struck him in the neck and was fatal.

Kirk was the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, an influential conservative organization that promotes its ideas in colleges and high schools across the United States.

His death shocked the country, not only due to his close ties with Trump but also because he had been a staunch defender of the right to bear arms, even claiming that “deaths by firearms are the price of freedom.”

President Trump holds the "radical left" responsible for the murder and promised justice, while leaders from both parties condemned the attack.

Former presidents like Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush agreed in condemning political violence and sent messages of condolence to Kirk's family, who leaves behind a wife and two young children.

The university community, for its part, has questioned the security failures during the event, while on social media, the debate continues between those who remember Kirk as a patriot and those who see him as a victim of the very policies he defended.

Ongoing investigation

Despite the initial arrests, authorities confirmed that the shooter remains at large. Now, the FBI is working to identify the man captured on security cameras and featured in the official images.

The case has heightened political tension in the United States and brings the issue of gun violence back to the forefront, a phenomenon that leaves thousands of victims in the country each year.
