Washington.- The political activist Charlie Kirk, one of the most influential figures in conservatism in the United States and a close ally of President Donald Trump, died this Wednesday after being shot during an event at Utah Valley University.

The news was confirmed by Trump himself on his platform Truth Social: “The great, and even legendary, Charlie Kirk has died. No one understood or had the heart of the youth in the United States better than Charlie.”

The leader added: “I love you, brother. You have given so many people the courage to raise their voices, and they will never silence us.”

According to initial reports, the shot that ended the life of 31-year-old Kirk came from a building on the campus about 200 meters away from the location where the activist was addressing the public at an event in Utah around 1:00 p.m.

Videos circulating on social media showed that he had received a blow to the neck.

The FBI director, Kash Patel, assured that the agency is monitoring the case and that agents have been dispatched to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, condemned the attack: “Those involved will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life. Americans of all political beliefs must come together to condemn this act.”

Kirk was the executive director and co-founder of Turning Point USA, an organization founded in 2012 that promotes conservatism on college and high school campuses. Throughout his career, he amassed millions of followers on social media and became a prominent spokesperson for the American right.

His murder has sparked ironic comments on social media, where some point out that Kirk ended up becoming part of the statistics he justified in his speeches.

"Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk, alongside the approximately 4,500 to 5,100 children and adolescents who have died due to gun violence, with around 2,581 such deaths recorded in 2023 and 1,986 more from April 2023 to September 9, 2025. We pray for ALL the families and friends affected," are some of the comments on social media from Americans who reject the sale of firearms in the country.
