The United States dollar (USD) opened on September 12, 2025, with a rate of 420 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, according to the daily monitoring by elTOQUE.
The USD increased in value by four pesos compared to the previous session. It establishes itself as one of the most sought-after currencies in street trading. The high exchange rate reflects the impact of the shortage of foreign currency and the deterioration of Cubans' purchasing power.
On the other hand, the euro rose slightly and is currently valued at 470 CUP, continuing its upward trend. The European currency has surpassed the dollar in exchange value, making it a preferred option for those receiving remittances from countries in the old continent or engaging in international transactions.
The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), used in state-run stores, has also increased in value. In this case, it costs five pesos more than it did on Thursday. It is traded at 200 CUP.
