A recently operated patient became trapped in the elevator of the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Teaching Hospital in Ciego de Ávila while being moved to the recovery room.

The incident, the exact date of which has not been specified, was shared by the Facebook page La Tijera, which published the images recorded by a relative who was accompanying the patient.

In the video, the patient is immobilized on the stretcher, visibly affected and unable to speak, while the elevator remains stopped.

"We are stuck here, with a patient just out of surgery, who has been like this since morning. We are trapped in the elevator. It won't open, no one is showing up. There is no administrative guard at the hospital. There's nothing. No one is helping us. What can we do?" is heard from the man who documented the moment.

According to the complaint, not even the hospital's generators managed to keep the elevator system operational, which would have jeopardized the lives of the patient and the accompanying staff.

The problems with elevators in Cuban hospitals are recurring. Last week, a newborn baby was transported via the stairs of the Hijas de Galicia Hospital in Havana because the elevator was not working.

This type of technical failures in medical centers, in a context where every second is crucial for patients' recovery, highlights the deterioration of the Public Health System in Cuba and the critical situation of the hospital infrastructure on the island.

So far, health authorities have not made any statements regarding the incident or the health status of the affected individual.
