After the disastrous forecasts about the decline of tourism in the United States, the government announced a series of measures that mark the beginning of what it called a new “golden age of travel”, with changes aimed at enhancing the passenger experience at airports across the country.

According to announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), one of the main updates is the end of the policy requiring passengers to remove their shoes at security checkpoints.

The Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, stated that this measure aims to “modernize and enhance the travel experience for Americans,” without compromising security.

This initiative complements the launch of the campaign "Families on the Fly", aimed at enhancing the screening process for families traveling with children. It includes benefits such as exclusive lines for families at selected airports, discounts on TSA PreCheck® enrollment for family groups, and expedited access for military members and their families.

The airports that have already implemented the program announced this Friday by the DHS include Orlando (MCO) and Charlotte-Douglas (CLT), with future expansions planned at airports in California, Hawaii, Florida, and Puerto Rico.

The TSA also expanded the program “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease”, which offers priority access and other benefits to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Active duty military personnel and Department of Defense employees can use their identification number as a “Known Traveler Number” to access PreCheck at no cost.

These reforms are part of a new hospitality policy driven by the Trump administration, which aims to enhance air travel in the United States and restore passengers' confidence.

The measures are being implemented after numerous forecasts indicated that the US would lose foreign travelers in the coming months.

Recently, the World Travel & Tourism Council projected that the United States will be the only country among the 184 analyzed where spending by foreign visitors will decline in 2025, a clear indicator that the country's global appeal is decreasing during the current administration of President Donald Trump and his unpopular measures in multiple nations.

“The largest travel and tourism economy in the world is headed in the wrong direction,” stated Julia Simpson, president and CEO of the council. “While other countries are rolling out the welcome mat, the U.S. government is putting up the ‘closed’ sign,” she emphasized in statements to the newspaper Los Angeles Times.
