The images show several small children and even a baby on the beds while the floor of the house is completely flooded.

"Look at how many children live here; let's hope that a disaster doesn't happen during one of the floods, and then they want to take action when it's too late. God bless you all," concluded this desperate mother.

In the comments, dozens of users expressed their support for the woman and urged her to stand with her children in front of the Provincial Government.

Flooding event

Last Thursday, the heavy rains also caused flooding in low-lying areas of Havana.

Entire neighborhoods were submerged, and the currents dragged the accumulated garbage through the streets due to the inadequate drainage of the sewage system in the Cuban capital.

Images shared by users on social media and independent news outlets convey more than words can express the extent of the impact of the rains and storms in municipalities such as Centro Habana, La Habana Vieja, Cerro, and Plaza.

The news portal CubaNet published a video showing the conditions in which the Cuatro Caminos market area and its surroundings were found on the night of this Wednesday.

"Completely underwater: that's how Cuatro Caminos in Havana looked last night, after several days of rain exacerbated by drainage issues," it was noted on the social network X.

Residents in neighborhoods of the municipalities of Centro Habana and Diez de Octubre shared images and testimonies on social media about the accumulation of waste carried by the currents, highlighting the insufficient drainage capacity of urban sanitation networks during heavy rain events.

Frequently Asked Questions about Flooding and Infrastructure Issues in Cuba

Why does Havana flood so easily?

Havana easily floods due to the poor drainage system, which does not have the adequate capacity to drain water during heavy rains. This problem is exacerbated by the lack of maintenance and cleaning of the drains, leading to streets turning into rivers and homes being inundated. The accumulation of trash also worsens the situation, blocking the drains and increasing the risk of floods.

What has the Cuban mother Yaimare Villafañe Romero reported?

Yaimare Villafañe Romero has reported that, after a heavy rain, her home was completely flooded and the authorities have not addressed her issue, despite it being reported to several agencies. In the shared images, small children can be seen in hazardous conditions due to the standing water in their home. The mother has expressed her desperation and fear that a tragedy will occur if the authorities do not take action in time.

What consequences have the rains had in neighborhoods of Havana and Guantánamo?

The rains have caused severe flooding in neighborhoods of Havana and Guantánamo, affecting multiple families. In Havana, the heavy downpours have left entire neighborhoods submerged, with currents sweeping away accumulated trash. In Guantánamo, a complaint from Yaimare Villafañe Romero highlights the lack of response from authorities regarding flooded homes, putting children and residents at risk. The situation reflects a chronic problem of infrastructure and management in Cuba.

What measures are being taken to address the infrastructure problems in Cuba?

So far, no effective measures have been implemented to address infrastructure issues, such as the inadequate sewage system and the accumulation of garbage in Cuba. The lack of government action and the ineffectiveness of the state institutions responsible for maintenance have been subject to criticism and complaints from citizens, who suffer the consequences of flooding and unsanitary conditions in their neighborhoods.
