Two regional aircraft from Delta Air Lines were involved in a ground accident at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Wednesday night when a low-speed collision occurred on the taxiway.

The incident left at least one person injured.

According to a report by Local 10, the wing of a plane preparing for takeoff to Roanoke, Virginia, collided with the fuselage of another aircraft that had just arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Both aircraft belong to the Delta Connection brand and were operated by Endeavor Air.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that a flight attendant was injured lightly and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Delta indicated that no passengers were harmed and assured that operations at LaGuardia would not experience significant disruptions.

In a statement, the airline expressed that it "will cooperate with all relevant authorities to review what happened, as the safety of customers and staff is its top priority." Furthermore, it apologized to the travelers affected by the experience.

Recent background of Delta

This incident adds to other events that have impacted Delta flights in recent months.

In July last year, a flight from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale had to make an emergency landing in Fort Myers after a passenger's lithium battery caught fire mid-flight, causing panic among the 185 passengers.

Although the crew managed to extinguish the flames quickly, the smoke in the cabin forced the aircraft to be diverted. No injuries were reported, and later the plane was able to continue on its route.

Months earlier, in February, a Delta Air Lines airplane operating the Minneapolis–Toronto route crashed during landing at Canada's Pearson International Airport.

The aircraft, a CRJ-900 also operated by Endeavor Air, lost control on an ice-covered runway and ended up overturned after a heavy impact, resulting in 15 injuries, including one child. Three people sustained serious injuries, although none were fatal.

The accident occurred amid extreme weather conditions, with blizzards, accumulated snow, and winds of up to 65 km/h, which may have contributed to the incident.

Images captured by passengers and crew members showed the moment of the rollover and the emergency evacuation, while firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire that broke out in the fuselage.

A pattern of incidents

Although the collision at LaGuardia was less severe compared to other recent cases, it highlights a series of incidents that have put the company and its regional subsidiaries under scrutiny.

In all of these cases, passenger safety was not fatally compromised, but the incidents have underscored the need to review protocols and operational conditions, both on the ground and in flight.

For now, Delta assures that the situation in New York is under control and that the investigation into the ground collision at LaGuardia is underway.
