A partial collapse occurred this Friday in the area for self-employed vendors at the El Domingón market, in the city of Güines, Mayabeque province, leaving seven people trapped.
The collapse occurred at the front of the facility, prompting a swift response from emergency teams, reported the profile "Indira La O Herrera" on Facebook.
Firefighters from Command number 4, members of the Cuban Red Cross, and the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) arrived at the scene and managed to evacuate those trapped through an improvised exit at the back of the premises.
Local authorities, including the deputy mayor Yarima Teresa Matienzo Fresneda, confirmed that there were no human casualties or injuries, only material damage to the roof of the building.
The El Domingón market borders the Banco de Crédito y Comercio (BANDEC) and the sales point El Criollo of the La Espiga store.
According to the authorities, none of these nearby facilities sustained structural damage or impacts on their operation.
Local authorities urged the population to maintain discipline and avoid traveling through the area to prevent accidents.
In the coming hours, a team from Arquitecto de la Comunidad will assess the extent of the damage and issue an official report.
In August, the partial collapse claimed the life of a worker at Café Boulevard and left several people trapped.
The upper floor, used as a boarding house, faced severe construction issues exacerbated by the heavy rains of recent days, which added moisture to an already weakened century-old structure.
