The Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro honored the farewell of the Cuban regime's ambassador in Caracas, Dagoberto Rodríguez, who completed his diplomatic mission after six years in the South American country.
During a solemn ceremony held at the Palacio de Miraflores, Maduro awarded the diplomat with the Francisco de Miranda Order in its First Class, reported the Cuban Foreign Ministry in a statement published on social media.
Accompanied by the First Lady Cilia Flores, Foreign Minister Yván Gil, and other government representatives, Maduro referred to Rodríguez as "a witness and protagonist of revolutionary diplomacy."
The Venezuelan leader reaffirmed that during the ambassador's tenure, bilateral relations "were strengthened like never before," highlighting the ideological and strategic alliance between the two countries.
Rodríguez thanked the Venezuelan government for the "invaluable support" and stated that it was an "extraordinary honor" to accompany the revolutionary process in Venezuela.
The close collaboration between Havana and Caracas has generated controversy, particularly due to the alleged presence of Cuban advisors and military personnel in key Venezuelan security and intelligence institutions.
Various opposition sectors and human rights organizations have reported that this cooperation has contributed to repressive control within the country, something that both governments have systematically denied.
Cooperation between Cuba and Venezuela has been sustained in key areas such as health, education, intelligence, and security.
Havana continues to receive subsidized oil while Caracas benefits from Cuban human capital.
