The president of the United States, Donald Trump, reacted this Friday to the message from opposition leader María Corina Machado after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize 2025, sharing her words on his social network Truth.

Trump, who had also been nominated for the award, did not write any special message and simply reposted the activist's post.

In the morning, a member of their government harshly criticized the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award the prize to the opposition leader, arguing that the award was given for political purposes and not for any real merits in promoting peace.

Trump's candidacy for the prize has always been a challenging bet, as the deadline for nominations was February 1st, just a few weeks after he began his second term.

This happened before he undertook the most notable actions with which he claims to have resolved “seven wars in seven months,” although some of them remain unresolved altogether.

Trump has been very critical of the Nobel committee, although he has made public efforts to obtain the award.

In September, she warned that being ignored again this year would be “an insult to our country”; while several of her opponents were betting on the conditions (quasi impossible) under which Trump would deserve the Nobel Prize.

Nevertheless, the president reacted to the message published by Machado, who emphasized Washington's support for the cause of Venezuela.

We are on the brink of victory, and now more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies in achieving freedom and democracy. Venezuela will be free, he wrote.

Publication on Social Truth

Machado also published an open letter following the announcement of the Nobel, in which she accepted the award "on behalf of the people of Venezuela" and firmly denounced the crimes of the Chavista regime.

Venezuelans have endured 26 years of violence and humiliation at the hands of a tyranny obsessed with subjugating its citizens, he wrote.

In her letter, the leader acknowledged the enormous sacrifices of the Venezuelans during more than two decades of repression, exile, and crisis: “This long journey has entailed indescribable costs: thousands of lives lost and millions forced to leave their homeland.”

Machado asserted that the country is closer than ever to reaching its goal and considered that this award constitutes a “unique boost” that renews hope both inside and outside the country. “The global democratic community understands and shares our struggle,” he noted.

The Venezuelan opposition leader expressed her gratitude to international leaders who have supported the process, with special mention to President Trump: “Just as we have given everything in our civic struggle, the support from our genuine allies has been crucial.”

Addressing directly to her compatriots, Machado concluded: “This award is yours. It is a recognition of what we have achieved together and a reminder of what still lies ahead.”

Trump's gesture in sharing Machado's message confirms his administration's support for the democratic transition process in Venezuela.

In previous statements, the leader has described the opposition figure as a key player in the "restoration of freedom in Latin America."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized María Corina Machado for her civil leadership under conditions of extreme repression, highlighting the courage of her peaceful struggle for democracy. The official award ceremony is scheduled for December in Oslo, although the committee has warned that there could be "security considerations" if the regime obstructs her exit from the country.
