The President of the United States, Donald Trump, thanked the Russian leader Vladimir Putin this Friday for his words of support regarding his role as a mediator in various global crises, especially following his exclusion from the Nobel Peace Prize 2025.
Thanks to President Putin, Trump wrote succinctly on Truth Social, in response to the statements from the Kremlin leader, who praised his diplomatic efforts during a regional summit held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
During the summit, Putin stated: “He is truly doing a lot to resolve such complex crises that have lasted for years and even decades,” directly referring to Trump’s role in negotiations such as the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
In response to the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, the Russian president criticized the Norwegian Committee, suggesting that Trump was unjustly overlooked: “There have been occasions when the Nobel Prize has been awarded to people who have done nothing for peace.”
Putin openly questioned the criteria of the Nobel Committee: “These decisions have greatly harmed the prestige of this award,” he said, adding that sometimes “they give it to someone in one or two months, without having done anything.”
The statements were made on the same day that the Nobel Peace Prize was officially awarded to María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader recognized for her defense of democratic rights in her country. The Committee described her as a “brave and committed advocate for peace.”
In September, during a meeting with senior military officials in Quantico, Virginia, Trump had already expressed his skepticism: “If this works, we will have resolved eight conflicts in eight months. The Nobel? Of course not. They will give it to the guy who wrote a book about my mind.”
