Neither the food shortages, nor the blackouts, nor the deepest economic crisis Cuba has faced in decades have managed to erase the joy from the faces of many Cubans.
This is evidenced by a video that has gone viral on TikTok, where three women star in a scene of pure enjoyment: they dance to the rhythm of the music in the street, in front of a typical building of the neighborhood.
Wearing simple clothes and flip-flops, the women needed nothing more than a portable speaker and their own energy to infect thousands of users with their rhythm.
Around her, neighbors watch with laughter and mobile phones in hand. In the background, the typical Cuban grills and balconies can be seen, witnesses to a reality where music and dance become a form of resistance.
The video, posted by the user El Pelvico, sparked a wave of comments filled with nostalgia, humor, and criticism
"Cuba is in the dark, without food, in crisis, but Cubans continue to maintain their good attitude and their enjoyment! No one can take that away," wrote an internet user. "Let me keep watching the video… maybe I’ll run into my mom," joked another.
"My Cuba, what times... happiness is found everywhere," commented a user from abroad with nostalgia.
The images reflect that duality that characterizes the Island: on one side, the precariousness; on the other, the indomitable spirit of its people. Even in the absence of bread, light, and even water, the Cuban people continue to find reasons to move, smile, and make the most of what they have.
From the humblest neighborhoods to social media, the message is clear: the regime may plunge the country into chaos, but the people's joy does not surrender.
