A video shared on TikTok has touched thousands of users by showing the moment a young Cuban reunites with his family after being away from home for four years.
"After 4 years, I am reuniting with my mother, sister, and grandparents. I missed them dearly; only those of us who have emigrated know what it feels like," wrote the user @fabian.madrigal84, the creator of the video that has already garnered hundreds of comments filled with emotion and solidarity.
In the images recorded outside a home in Cuba, the young man arrives in the midst of a downpour and is welcomed with hugs, tears, and shouts of joy from his family, who cannot contain their emotions.
The scene continues inside the house, where crying and hugs abound, reflecting the deep sorrow and joy experienced by so many Cuban families separated by emigration.
The video, titled “Reunion Under the Rain,” symbolizes the reality of thousands of Cubans who have had to leave the island in search of a better future, many of whom spend years unable to see their loved ones due to the high cost of tickets and the difficulties of traveling.
The images also reflect the precariousness of the environment, typical of Cuban neighborhoods where the homes show the wear of time and lack of maintenance, a direct consequence of the economic crisis the country is experiencing.
The reunion has generated a wave of empathy on social media, where numerous users have shared their own stories of family separation, one of the deepest wounds left by the current wave of Cuban migration.
