The airline Nordwind Airlines, in collaboration with the tour operator Pegas Touristik, announced that it will resume operations between Moscow and Frank País International Airport in Holguín starting on October 29.
The resumption of this route marks the return of a strategic link between the Russian capital and one of the most important tourist hubs in eastern Cuba, which had been interrupted since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, reported the official newspaper Granma.
The air bridge, which will operate in charter flight mode with tourist packages, was originally inaugurated in 2017 and solidified two years later with the arrival of the Boeing 777 from Royal Flight, under the tour operator CoralTravel.
Now, as the Cuban economy faces one of its worst crises, the reestablishment of the Moscow–Holguín route aims to strengthen the recovery of the Cuban tourism sector, which is going through one of its most challenging phases in decades.
Russia has become one of the main sources of visitors to the island, surpassed only by Canada and a few European markets; however, Russian tourists are increasingly disappointed with their vacations in the Caribbean nation.
In July, it was reported that tourism in Cuba plummeted due to a significant decline in visitors in June, particularly from Russian tourists.
In parallel, a hotel management agreement was announced between Grupo Cosmos Hotels, the largest tourist operator in Russia, and Gaviota S.A., to manage the Hotel Sierra Cristal, a five-star resort with 640 rooms located in the El Ramón Peninsula, in the municipality of Antilla.
The complex will operate under the brand Sierra Cristal by Cosmos Hotels and will begin operations following the agreement signed during the Tourist Territories Forum (FTT-2025) held in Moscow.
