The hurricane Melissa continues to move slowly over the Caribbean Sea as a powerful category 4 cyclone, with maximum sustained winds of 220 kilometers per hour, according to the latest report from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Satellite images from the past 24 hours show a perfectly defined eye and a symmetrical structure, signs of a highly organized system that maintains its strength as it moves westward, towards Jamaica and eastern Cuba.

The NHC warns that Melissa could bring torrential rains, storm surges, and landslides to the western Caribbean over the coming days. In eastern Cuba, the provinces of Granma, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, and Holguín remain under hurricane watch, with potential direct impacts expected between Tuesday and Wednesday.
