The usual calm in the life of Emily Estefan, the youngest daughter of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, was interrupted this week following an unfortunate incident that occurred at her home in Miami, where her partner, Gemeny Hernández, was arrested on charges of robbery with violence and minor assault. The event, confirmed by American media outlets such as TMZ and People, has caused shock among the followers of the Estefan family, one of the most beloved and respected within the Latino community in the United States.
According to police reports from Miami-Dade County, the altercation took place on Tuesday, October 28, when Hernández was involved in an argument with his domestic partner—identified in the affidavit, but not publicly named—over possession of a mobile phone. Various media outlets indicate that the alleged victim would be Emily Estefan, with whom Hernández has been in a relationship for several years.
According to the police report, Hernández allegedly struck the alleged victim on the head with the phone, causing a bruise on her left eye and scratches on her neck. After the incident, the victim managed to retrieve the device and was the one who called 911 for help. Police officers arrived at the residence and proceeded to arrest Hernández, who was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She later posted a bond of $3,000 before being released.
During her appearance before the judge, Hernández acknowledged having participated in the altercation, although she denied having any intention to steal. The magistrate imposed a temporary restraining order while the case continues in court. According to several specialized media reports, Emily Estefan was said to have been present at the hearing and reportedly refused to request a permanent restraining order, stating that “she did not want her partner to go to jail” and that the best thing for both would be “to take some time apart.”
Emily and Gemeny had been in a relationship for nearly nine years, and they were known for their complicity and the joint podcast they hosted, In Our Own World, in which they discussed topics of music, identity, and diversity. Their relationship was always visible and celebrated on social media, where they shared affectionate messages and photographs that reflected a life together filled with love, projects, and travel.
Graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Emily Estefan has resolutely followed in her parents' footsteps as a singer-songwriter, producer, and activist, establishing herself as one of the most promising young voices in the Latin music scene. So far, neither Emily nor the Estefan family have made public statements regarding the case, while the media closely follows the developments of the legal process.
