The Ministry of Transport (Mitrans) confirmed this Friday the restoration of National Bus services in Camagüey, Las Tunas, and Holguín, although connections with Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantánamo remain canceled.
According to the update published by the minister of the sector Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, through his account on Facebook, in Camagüey, the departures to Matanzas and Chambas took place without difficulties, while in Las Tunas, the routes to Camagüey and Holguín also adhered to the scheduled times.
In Holguín, however, there were delays on the routes to Havana and Santa Clara due to a lack of electricity for fuel supply and delays in the arrival of passengers because of the inclement weather.
The journey to Cienfuegos was canceled due to a complete lack of travelers.
From Havana, until the close of the report, only three buses had left with 15 passengers heading to Camagüey, 18 to Las Tunas, and 19 bound for Holguín.
The ministry reiterated that the national programming services remain suspended, including those of Viazul and the cargo services to Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantánamo, until safe conditions for travel exist.
As for the railways, all national and local passenger trains to the eastern part of the country remain canceled, while crews from the Union of Railways of Cuba inspect and repair the damaged sections in Holguín, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantánamo.
Domestic and international flights are now operating at the Frank País airport in Holguín and are partially resuming at the Antonio Maceo airport in Santiago de Cuba, both impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
Authorities urged passengers of canceled flights to contact their airlines to reschedule their trips.
In maritime transport, two catamarans covered the route from Nueva Gerona to Batabanó, allowing for the evacuation of numerous passengers who had been waiting for days.
Finally, the Ministry of Transport reported that work continues to recover the road infrastructure, in coordination with the Ministry of Construction and the Armed Forces.
Persisting areas remain isolated, and caution is advised due to potential accidents on still unstable segments.
Mitrans decided last Sunday to suspend the departures of trains, national buses, boats, and flights due to the approach of the powerful hurricane Melissa towards eastern Cuba, in order to "ensure the safety of passengers and means of transportation."
