The singer Ja Rulay and actress Belissa Cruz have begun to distribute aid and support to the areas affected after Hurricane Melissa in Holguín.
“More than artists, we are human beings, and it's not just about sending support; it's about coming together and supporting each other, as we are all fellow countrymen. Strength, my Oriente, we will get through this,” wrote Rulay on his social media, where he has been documenting his work.
The project Familia Cubana and the urban artist BR have also joined the initiative that has provided food, clothing, and essential items to those in greatest need.
Cueto, one of the municipalities hardest hit by Melissa in Holguín, was the first stop for the artists, who were also seen in Pueblo Nuevo, a suburb of the city of Holguín
The gesture has been appreciated by dozens of Cubans on social media, as well as by the people of Holguín.
"Only the people save the people" or "In the streets supporting the people, great ones," have been some of the messages of gratitude.
The work of the artists stands in stark contrast to the apathy of many members of the regime's nomenclature.
This Sunday, many were asking where Lis Cuesta is at this moment: the so-called "not first lady" of the Cuban regime, originally from Holguín, has not shown signs of empathy towards the victims, limiting herself to sharing messages of political propaganda about the U.S. embargo.
