The 11J protester Oscar Corría Sánchez completed this Sunday one month in prison for refusing to integrate into the state labor system.

“The decision by Oscar not to work for the State led to threats and mistreatment at the police station,” said his sister Mairelis Menéndez Sánchez to the NGO Cubalex.

His relatives went to the police station in Contramaestre on Thursday, October 30, where he remains in custody, and they were not allowed to see him or deliver clean clothes.

Sánchez had begun a hunger strike a week after his arrest, and his family is unsure if he is still continuing it.

"They have not provided details about his health status or the conditions he is in," Cubalex noted.

Oscar served a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence for participating in the protests on July 11, 2021, in Contramaestre.

The young man reported to the local police station on October first after receiving a summons, and he was detained there, accused of "disobedience" and "contempt" after refusing to work for the State.

Corría had been released from the Boniato prison on September 8, 2024, after fully serving the sentence imposed on him arbitrarily by the Cuban regime for exercising his right as a citizen to protest.

In statements to Martí Noticias, Menéndez reported that since his brother's release from prison over a year ago, the State Security and the Police have been harassing him and demanding that he join the state labor system, and in retaliation for his refusal, they have fabricated this new accusation.
