A Cuban jeweler based in Miami, known on social media as @jr_305cartel, reported being a victim of a scam after accepting a fake Rolex as payment.
The businessman, who presents himself as the owner of a brand that promotes the use of jewelry made with moissanite, a synthetic and affordable alternative to diamonds, shared the story in a video that quickly went viral.
According to the account, a customer arrived at his business interested in a large chain and, instead of paying in cash, offered a supposed luxury Rolex watch as part of the exchange.
The jeweler accepted the deal believing in the authenticity of the watch. However, the next day, he went to Ariel’s Jewelry, owned by the popular influencer known as “the elegant gentleman,” and there he discovered that the watch was a counterfeit.
“Thank goodness Ariel wasn't there; otherwise, I would have been so embarrassed appearing in one of his videos,” joked the jeweler, visibly frustrated.
He added that the phone number of the supposed customer does not exist and lamented falling into the trap “for wanting to earn a few pesos, for being a good person, and for trusting too much.”
