Laura María Gil, daughter of the ousted Cuban Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil Fernández, stated that since the moment the trial against her father was announced, she has faced limitations in accessing the internet and her WhatsApp account, right when the case was made public on state television.
The testimony comes from a viral audio in which the young woman claims that both she and her family were completely unaware that the legal case would be presented to the media.

"We didn't know either, we had no idea. My grandmother was the one who told me that it had been mentioned on the one o'clock news," she recounted, while explaining that she was at home taking care of her sick daughter when she found out.
Shortly after the official announcement, his WhatsApp was partially blocked.
"I have over 20 unread messages, it tells me that I can't respond to new contacts, as if my account has been restricted for 24 hours. I've never experienced anything like this," said the daughter of the ousted minister, who just a few days ago had demanded that the regime the trial of her father be held publicly.
The young woman added that the internet connection also became "extremely bad" from early in the day. "I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but usually, the connection here is not poor," she remarked.
In his message, he expressed frustration and distrust regarding the accusations facing his father, insisting that the entire process is a political manipulation.
“I know he is not a spy, nor will he ever be. I am completely sure that is a total misrepresentation of everything,” she stated.
Throughout the audio, his fear and helplessness about the process marked by secrecy are evident: “No matter what they say, show whatever evidence they have, no one is going to convince me of that. People will be judging a minister, but I am judging my father. I will fight as best I can within the limits that are allowed to me,” he said.
He also explained that he is unsure if he will be able to attend the trial, which has been announced to be closed to the public.
"I will do everything possible to attend, even if I have to go alone. But if I can't, I will wait for the verdict," she declared, emphasizing that her intention is to understand the arguments of the process directly.
In another part of the audio, the young woman demanded transparency and accountability from the government in relation to public opinion.
"If they ultimately decide to sanction him, they should state what he did, based on who did it and what he received in return. Out of dignity, at the very least, they should have the moral obligation to provide a clear statement," he stated, emphasizing that the official silence only increases distrust.
Alejandro Gil Fernández, removed on February 2, 2024 and under investigation by the regime since March 7, 2024, is facing two separate legal proceedings. One of them, the more serious one, is for espionage and the prosecution is seeking a life sentence.
