Authorities in Yara, in the province of Granma, reported on Tuesday that the Paso Malo dam is releasing eleven cubic meters of water per second due to rainfall in the mountains caused by the cold front.
They clarified that there is no flood danger and that the situation remains under control, according to a report by CMKX Radio Bayamo.
The statement indicates that the Paso Malo dam is under constant vigilance and that the levels of the Buey River in the Veguita area are also being monitored.
Authorities warned that there could be variations due to the arrival of water from Yao, although there is no risk of overflow or impact on the population.
Furthermore, they insisted on staying calm and adhering to the preventive measures aimed at, among other things, avoiding getting too close to riverbanks or areas with strong currents, refraining from fishing or recreational activities in the waterways, and keeping children and elderly people away from the riverbanks
The municipal government of Yara highlighted the responsibility of the residents and assured that they will continue to provide clear and timely information regarding any changes in the hydrological situation, while reiterating that the safety of the population is the priority at this moment.
Amid the instability caused by recent rains, Cuban authorities insisted that there was no risk of collapse in another of the dams in the eastern part of the country.
The government denied reports of a supposed collapse of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes dam in Santiago de Cuba and stated that the hydraulic system remained under control, although it acknowledged that controlled release maneuvers continued to alleviate the most saturated reservoirs.
