The Cuban influencer Flor de Cuba didn't remain silent upon learning that the popular and multimillionaire Camila Güiribitey started selling products on TikTok Shop, the integrated store within the social network that has become the new territory for digital creators.
In a video that quickly went viral, Flor stated that Güiribitey's decision not only surprised her but also made her happy. “A Cuban millionaire just started a TikTok Shop,” she commented, making it clear that she views Camila’s foray into that world positively because, as she said, “it legitimizes the work of the female sellers” who face criticism every day for engaging in online sales.
Flor explained that many creators who use TikTok Shop face mockery, derogatory comments, and even a lack of support from their families or partners. She celebrated that a well-known and wealthy figure like Camila is joining this community. “Sometimes they tell you to get a real job or say that the products are bad, but when someone with such prestige does it, it adds value and respect to our work,” she stated.
The influencer also took the opportunity to send a direct message to her critics: “On the internet, it's not the one who needs the money the most that sells, but the one who connects with people the most. And Camila has it all: personal brand, credibility, and approachability. She doesn't sell out of necessity; she sells because she knows how to connect with her audience.”
On social media, reactions came quickly. While many users supported Flor's reflection, others saw it as evidence that digital commerce no longer has social class limits. “If a millionaire starts selling on TikTok, it's because she sees a future in it”, commented one follower. Another summed up the general sentiment: “If Güiribitey can do it, I can do it too.”
On Camila's side, the response to the criticism was direct and, as always, elegant. “Who said that having money means just sitting around spending it? Never say no to an opportunity to earn an income, as long as it's honest work, go for it”, she wrote in one of her videos, making it clear that for her, entrepreneurship never goes out of style.
Both Flor and Camila have managed to ensure that their conversation transcends the viral: two Cubans with very different paths, but a shared message. In times when social media sets trends, they both agree that selling with authenticity is a form of empowerment, and that success—whether with millions or starting from scratch—begins with self-confidence.
