The Cuban infielder César Prieto (26 years old) concluded his participation in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) with the Leones del Escogido, following an intense season that solidified his status as one of the most consistent talents among Cuban players in the MLB system.
According to journalist Francys Romero on the social network Facebook, Prieto had a batting average of .256 in 14 games with the Dominican team, recording 10 hits in 39 at-bats.
His time in the Caribbean winter league was brief, but it was part of his preparation for the upcoming campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he will aim to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster for 2026.
The 2025 season was particularly long and demanding for the player from Villa Clara, who batted .300 in Triple-A, with 138 hits before achieving his promotion to the Major Leagues. His consistent performance in the minor leagues and his debut with the Cardinals confirm his progression within the organization.
Now, Prieto will focus on an intensive training period during the offseason, aiming to establish himself as one of the active Cuban players in MLB and to start the upcoming season as part of the St. Louis big league team.
