The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2025 World Series after defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in a dramatic Game 7 played at the Rogers Centre in the Canadian city.
The game went into 11 innings and will be remembered as one of the most incredible comebacks in modern baseball history.
A movie finale
Toronto was leading 4-3 in the ninth inning and seemed ready to celebrate its first title in 32 years, but a solo home run by Venezuelan Miguel Rojas tied the score and forced the game into extra innings.
Tension mounted with each pitch until, in the top of the eleventh inning, catcher Will Smith hit a crucial home run that gave Los Angeles the definitive lead.
The Japanese player Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who had started Game 6, closed out the game decisively, forcing a double play that secured the victory and unleashed chaos in the Angels' dugout.
Andy Pagés, the play of the title
The Cuban Andy Pagés was the star of one of the game's most memorable plays.
In the bottom of the ninth, with the bases loaded and two outs, he made a spectacular catch in center field, even colliding with Kiké Hernández to prevent Toronto's championship hit.
His intervention kept the Dodgers alive and was crucial for reaching extra innings.
With this victory, Pagés becomes the second Cuban player in history to win two World Series rings in his first two seasons, after Orlando "El Duque" Hernández (1998-1999).
A duel of titans on the mound
The seventh game featured two heavyweights: Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers and Max Scherzer for the Blue Jays.
Toronto took an early lead with a three-run home run by Bo Bichette off Ohtani in the third inning, but Los Angeles responded with two sacrifice flies in the following innings. A double by Andrés Giménez extended the home team's lead, but Max Muncy narrowed the gap with another home run in the eighth.
The game, lasting over four hours, provided drama, strategy, and excitement from start to finish, with both offenses rising to the occasion of a historic final.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Most Valuable Player
The 27-year-old Japanese player Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 World Series of the Major Leagues.
The Japanese phenomenon delivered 2.2 flawless innings in relief during Game 7, sealing the victory and crowning a postseason in which he demonstrated control, character, and talent in the most high-pressure moments.
"It's a dream come true. Winning here, in this environment, with this team, is something I'll never forget," declared Yamamoto after receiving the MVP trophy.
A historical milestone
With this victory, the Los Angeles Dodgers become the first team in 25 years to win consecutive World Series titles, a feat not seen since the New York Yankees (1998-2000).
The victory cements the Dodgers as a modern dynasty, with international stars like Ohtani, Yamamoto, Smith, Rojas, and Pagés leading the Los Angeles club to the pinnacle of world baseball.
"This team never gives up," said manager Dave Roberts. "No matter the score, we always find a way. That's the spirit of Los Angeles."
