Trump on Cristiano Ronaldo's visit to the White House: "My son respects me a little more after I introduced him."

Cristiano thanked Trump for the invitation: "Each of us has something meaningful to give, and I am ready to do my part."

The White House experienced an unusual day of politics, business, and international celebrities, as the President of the United States, Donald Trump, welcomed soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The president not only praised the Portuguese forward in front of the guests but also revealed an intimate anecdote that drew laughter and applause: "You know? My son is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. Now that he's here, I think my son respects his father a little more after I introduced you. Thank you for being here, it's an honor," Trump stated.

The captain of the Portuguese national team and player for Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr arrived in Washington as part of the delegation led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the guest of honor at a gala dinner.

The footballer attended the event with his fiancée, Georgina Rodríguez, and they stayed just a street away from the White House at a luxury hotel.

A presidential reception that included a walk, photos, and "two GOATs."

Before dinner, Trump welcomed Cristiano and Georgina in the Oval Office, where they posed for photographs that presidential advisor Margo Martin shared.

Then, the president accompanied them along the colonnade of the West Wing, where portraits of former U.S. presidents are displayed.

The White House later released a video of the walk with the message: "Two GOATs" -an acronym for Greatest of All Time—paying tribute to both the sports figure and the president himself.

On his social media, Cristiano, who described Trump in an interview as "one of the people who can help change the world," expressed his gratitude for the invitation.

"Thank you, Mr. President, for your invitation and for the warm welcome that you and the First Lady extended to me and my future wife, Georgina," he said on Instagram.

"Each of us has something meaningful to offer, and I am ready to do my part as we inspire new generations to build a future defined by courage, responsibility, and lasting peace," he stated.

A gala dinner with Musk, Tim Cook, and Infantino

The evening in honor of Bin Salman brought together top leaders from the business and sports worlds, including executives Elon Musk and Tim Cook, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, investor David Sacks, and Hollywood producer David Ellison.

Cristiano, dressed in a tuxedo, sat in the front rows of the East Hall, becoming the most photographed guest of the night. One of the most talked-about selfies showed him with Georgina, Musk, Infantino, and Sacks, who captioned the image as "Great night."

The event even had some curious moments, such as the delay of the dinner due to a storm that required covering the red carpet with an improvised tent.

Despite not speaking during the gala, Ronaldo was the absolute focus of the welcome speech, where Trump once again emphasized his son Barron's pride in knowing him.

Return to the U.S. without risks and a possible friendly match with the U.S. national team

The trip marks Ronaldo's return to the United States after more than a decade.

His last visit had been in 2014 with Real Madrid, although since then he avoided entering the country due to a rape allegation filed in Nevada in 2009. The case was definitively dismissed in 2023 in a ruling that declared the process closed, allowing the scorer to return without legal risks.

His presence in Washington coincides with the preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

A friendly match between Portugal and the United States is expected to be announced in the coming months on American soil, which would mark Ronaldo's first game in the country since his visit in 2014.

Sports diplomacy in times of global business and politics

Cristiano's visit goes beyond football: the 40-year-old player has become a tourist and economic ambassador for the Saudi kingdom and a key figure in promoting the country's professional league, which is owned by the sovereign wealth fund PIF, chaired by Bin Salmán.

He not only renewed his contract with Al-Nassr, but he has also promoted Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2034 World Cup, which he described as "the best World Cup in history."

The dinner with Trump, held under the banner of "peace and prosperity," ultimately painted a different picture for history: that of a president who found in the idol of world football an unexpected way to earn the respect of his own son.

And as he himself said with a smile, while introducing Barron to his hero: "I think my son respects me a little more now."
