The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, sent a message of encouragement to Venezuelans both inside and outside the country, reiterating the commitment of the Donald Trump administration to the cause of freedom and the restoration of democracy in Venezuela.
“Do not lose hope. We will continue working for you from here and elevating the case of Venezuela. May God bless Venezuela, which will soon be free,” expressed Rubio in a message shared by journalist Eduardo Menoni via the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The words of the U.S. official were met with enthusiasm by members of the Venezuelan diaspora in the United States, who expressed gratitude for the political and moral support that Washington has maintained towards democratic movements and the opposition to the regime of Nicolás Maduro.
Rubio, of Cuban origin and one of the main advocates for freedom in Latin America, reiterated several times that the United States will not recognize the chavista regime and will continue promoting sanctions and diplomatic measures until free elections are held, political prisoners are released, and constitutional order is restored in Venezuela.
In cities like Miami, Orlando, and Houston—where hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans reside—these messages are a beacon of hope for exiles dreaming of returning to their country.
From the State Department, Rubio has maintained a strong stance against the authoritarian regimes in the region, denouncing the connections between chavismo and drug trafficking, political repression, and its strategic alliance with Cuba, Russia, and Iran.
The United States, for its part, has increased pressure on the Chavista regime by deploying military forces in the Caribbean that are supposedly combating drug trafficking in the region.
