Passenger bound for Panama surprised with marijuana and hashish at Havana airport



The traveler, whose nationality was not revealed, was intercepted with drugs and items associated with consumption before boarding his flight, according to Cuban customs authorities.

A passenger bound for Panama was arrested at José Martí International Airport in Havana after being caught with marijuana, hashish, and drug-related items.

The information was confirmed this Monday by Wiliam Pérez González, the first deputy chief of the General Customs of the Republic (AGR), through his official account on X.

According to the official, the traveler was carrying marijuana edibles, hashish-infused nougat, paraphernalia associated with consumption, and marijuana-related promotional materials.

During the interrogation, the individual stated that he was a consumer, prompting the authorities to implement the measures outlined by Cuban legislation.

The Customs Authority reiterated its zero-tolerance policy regarding the trafficking, possession, or promotion of drugs, reminding that in Cuba these acts are considered serious crimes.

So far, the identity of the passenger and the details of the sanctions imposed have not been revealed.

Similar cases have been frequently detected. In September,  who was attempting to take a large amount of foreign currency out of the country without declaring its source, an act that was classified as a possible money laundering operation.

Days later, another operation allowed for the , in an effort aimed at curbing the smuggling of high-value goods.

Later on, inspectors discovered drugs hidden inside a tube of toothpaste sent through a postal package, highlighting the variety of methods used to try to introduce or smuggle illegal substances out of the country.

According to Customs, this type of finding has increased markedly in recent months.
