The exodus of Cuban baseball players continues, as it has been confirmed that young infielder Javier Zambrano left Cuba in the last few hours and arrived in the Dominican Republic, where he will seek to establish residency and sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) organization, according to journalist Francys Romero.
According to the communicator on the social network Facebook, Zambrano, one of the island's recent talents, was part of the Cuba team that participated in the Under-18 World Cup held in September in Okinawa, Japan, where he stood out for his offensive skills.
A born hitter with professional potential
In his few years within the system, Zambrano had already made a mark as a prospect. His strongest tool is hitting, a skill that has made him one of the most watched players in his category.
The young player recently debuted in the National Series with Camagüey, showing a high ceiling and potential to develop in professional baseball.
Awaiting to be declared a free agent
Zambrano is now eligible to sign during the current MLB international signing period, provided he is declared a free agent by the commissioner's office. His arrival in the Dominican Republic marks the first step in the process, a journey that has already been taken by dozens of Cuban players who leave the country in search of real development opportunities and better living conditions.
A phenomenon that does not stop
The case of Zambrano adds to a long list of young talents who have left the Cuban sports system in recent years. The combination of low salaries, lack of infrastructure, scarcity, and state control over their careers has accelerated an exodus that directly impacts the quality of baseball on the island.
Meanwhile, Cuban talent continues to carve a path beyond its borders, in a flow that seems far from coming to a halt.
