The FBI reminded that it investigates crimes occurring on airplanes and at airports, a warning that migrants, including Cubans, should also take into account while traveling during the holiday season.

In anticipation of the busiest air travel days of the year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a national alert directed at travelers to remind them that it investigates crimes committed on flights, at airports, or in relation to air transport.

In its official message, the FBI specified that its jurisdiction includes cases of assault, sexual harassment, theft, bomb threats, and interference with crew members or airport security personnel, both within the United States and on international flights.

The FBI's message also serves as a reminder to migrants—including Cubans—who have an unresolved or pending immigration status, as offenses or disturbances on flights—even minor ones—are treated under federal jurisdiction and can lead to legal or immigration consequences.

“If you observe any suspicious activity at an airport or during a flight, and if you are a victim or a witness of one of these crimes, notify the crew, the airport police, and the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or through tips.fbi.gov,” the agency stated.

The statement comes during the peak holiday travel season, when millions of people—including many migrants traveling to reunite with their families, among them Cubans—are moving through airports across the country.

Authorities reminded that any incident or irregularity onboard can lead to a federal investigation, making compliance with flight regulations and cooperation with the crew of utmost importance.

The agency emphasized that its objective is to ensure the safety of all passengers and urged everyone to remain calm and report any suspicious or potentially risky behavior during air travel.

U.S. federal authorities have strengthened security systems at their borders and entry points, including airports, with increasingly sophisticated technological tools.

A recent investigation revealed that the Border Patrol utilizes advanced surveillance technologies to track migrants and travelers in key areas, which includes facial recognition, motion sensors, and real-time data collection.

These strategies are complemented by the announcement that the United States government will implement an artificial intelligence-based system to anticipate irregular movements and detect potential risks at migration routes, airports, and crossing points.

The system will analyze behavior patterns, travel history, and other indicators to assist agents in real-time.
