A Cuban citizen registered as a sex offender in the United States was arrested this week in Butler County, Ohio, after federal agents confirmed that he had been violating a final deportation order for years and had provided false addresses to local authorities.

The man, identified as Magdiel López Rodríguez, 39 years old, is in the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after investigations revealed that he did not reside at the address he himself had reported to the County Sex Offender Registration and Notification Division, a mandatory requirement following his conviction for sexual assault.

Thus confirmed the Butler County Sheriff's Office in statements collected by WLWT 5, the outlet that first reported on the case.

The authorities explained that the Cuban had also provided a false address to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. This irregularity prompted further investigations that led to an additional arrest warrant.

One of the most striking aspects of the case is that it was López Rodríguez himself who went to the sheriff's office to speak with the detectives about the discrepancies in his declared address.

However, upon arrival, he was immediately detained due to an active ICE warrant for violating a final deportation order issued in October 2021.

In addition to the federal arrest, the Cuban faces possible local charges for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements, as reported by the Sheriff's Office.

Public records confirm the arrest

Public records from Butler County confirm that López Rodríguez was arrested on December 5, 2025, at 3:43 PM, and that he was held in custody with a "hold for ICE" notation. The documents also detail that the detainee is 1.60 meters tall, weighs 135 pounds, and was born on February 13, 1986.

For now, ICE has not reported when he might be transferred to an immigration detention center or whether it will reopen the pending deportation process from 2021.

The case adds to a series of recent arrests of foreigners with criminal records who are violating legal requirements in the United States, a situation that raises concerns among migrant communities, including those of Cuban origin.
