The manager of the Mexican national team, Benjamín Gil, confirmed at a press conference during the 2025 Winter Meetings that the Cuban nationalized Randy Arozarena will be on the roster for the World Baseball Classic (WBC) 2026.

The news, published by insider Francys Romero on his social media, arrives as a significant boost for the Mexican team, which will once again have one of the most pivotal players from the previous tournament.

In Orlando, Florida, Gil assured that Arozarena is "completely confirmed" to join the team and that his presence will be crucial both for his competitive level and for his leadership within the clubhouse.

A highly anticipated return following their brilliant performance in 2023

Arozarena, from the Seattle Mariners, was one of the standout figures of the 2023 World Classic, where he excelled both defensively and offensively. His spectacular performance in the outfield, including crucial catches, and his sustained offensive production made him one of the most high-profile and key players of the tournament.

In addition to their performances, their charisma, celebrations, and connection with Mexican fans strengthened the team's identity and enhanced Mexico's presence on the international baseball stage.

Mexico will rely on its star core

Arozarena's confirmation adds to the coaching staff's efforts to ensure the participation of key figures in Mexican baseball ahead of 2026.

Benjamín Gil noted that the team's foundation remains strong and that they aim to "compete at the highest level" in a tournament that will be even more challenging than the last one.

The one born in Pinar del Río, for his part, has reiterated on multiple occasions his commitment to the Mexican national team and his pride in representing it in international competitions.
