Cubans detained at Alligator Alcatraz in Florida reported experiencing strange symptoms following last week's protest, where they demanded to be released.

"What's being done to us is a great injustice," stated a detainee in communication with CiberCuba.

He assured that after the recent protest in which they demanded to be released, they have experienced unusual symptoms including drowsiness and loss of energy.

"The water has a strange taste, and if you look at the carp right now, everyone is sleeping. It's very unusual and we believe they are giving us some substance in the water to keep us sedated," he pointed out.

The wives of the detainees stated that "there are people there who paid their sentences decades ago and have never committed crimes again."

One of the complainants explained that her husband, 38 years old, suffers from severe migraines and that on Thursday, December 25, she was at Alligator Alcatraz trying to see him.

The woman personally went to the center as a form of protest against her detention and that of other Cubans in similar situations.

The testimonies describe an alarming situation within the center. "Many have high fever, joint pain, and extreme fatigue," they reported.

Several wives agreed that the detainees exhibited strange and similar behavior among them all.

"All the letters and calls were the same, like zombies: they would get up and then go back to sleep. We don't know if they put something in the food. That's not normal," one of them stated.

According to reports, the inmates lack the strength even to get out of bed.

Another woman mentioned that her husband, who frequently calls her, recently contacted her with a tone that was “almost sleepy.”

“She told me that everyone there is asleep, without energy,” she recounted.

Families suspect that the symptoms began after the detainees started consuming the water from the facility, and claim that reports are already circulating of people who may be dying inside.

"They are playing with the lives of our families," they denounced.

The complaints from the families come after a massive protest by hundreds of Cubans detained in Alligator Alcatraz, who demanded their freedom and better detention conditions this weekend.

The demonstration was broadcast by CiberCuba and showed inmates shouting “Freedom!” from inside the facility.

According to testimonies, the protest erupted after an elderly man stripped in the dining hall as an act of desperation over the poor nutrition and was beaten by the guards.

When other detainees protested, the officers responded with violence and pepper spray.

Several of the protesters claimed to have already signed their deportation, yet they have been detained for 50, 70, and even 90 days, without clear information about their immigration status.

"They are treating us as if we are on the path to death," stated one of the inmates.

The wives and family members demanded an immediate investigation into the sanitary conditions, water supply, and food at the facility, as well as the release of those who have already served their sentences or pose no threat at all.

They claim that no one speaks up for these individuals and that no institution investigates or opposes the situation.

"This is not just a legal issue; it is a human crisis," they concluded.
