President Donald Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social this Saturday that "crime in the United States is at its lowest recorded levels."
The president attributed that situation, to a large extent, to what he described as “the most successful operation in history at the Southern Border”, according to what he wrote on Truth Social.
In the same message, Trump also stated that there are currently “more people working in the United States than ever before”, and concluded his post with a triumphant slogan.
The statements were made as the first year of his second term comes to a close, during which the president has insisted on linking his immigration and security agenda with other economic issues.
This December, Trump claimed that his tariffs have created “great wealth” and “unprecedented national security” for the United States.
He stated that the trade deficit has been reduced by 60%, which is equivalent to 4.3% of GDP and that it "continues to rise", and added: “Without inflation!”
Days earlier, Trump had already praised economic figures released by the Department of Commerce—showing a growth of 4.3%—attributing them to his tariff policy.
Despite the presidential narrative, the inflation report for November indicated that food prices rose by 2.6% year-on-year, while the price of gasoline decreased slightly.
Moreover, it remains unclear whether the Supreme Court will support the legality of broad tariffs and whether the president can unilaterally set foreign trade rates without Congressional intervention, as discussed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
Victory over crime?
During the year 2025, the United States experienced a decrease in crime rates, according to official reports and local media, which supported President Donald Trump's claim of a supposed historic improvement in public safety.
Various reports indicated a general reduction in violent crimes and property offenses in several cities, although experts warned that the statistics should be analyzed with caution and within specific regional contexts.
Meanwhile, the immigration policy promoted by Trump during his second term has been marked by harsher measures at the southern border and an extensive use of the judicial system to block certain migration pathways.
At the end of 2025, his administration implemented an accelerated deportation program and tightened control at key entry points.
These actions have been justified by the White House as essential for maintaining internal order and reducing crime rates, although human rights advocacy organizations have expressed concern about procedural and humanitarian violations.
