The Cuban dissident Jorge Miyar "El Gussi" issued one of the harshest condemnations of the ruling elite on the Island during an interview with journalist Tania Costa, in which he demanded fair trials and the application of the maximum sentence for those he considers directly responsible for decades of suffering of the Cuban people.

In a part of the dialogue, El Gussi stated that the top leaders of the regime “” for keeping political dissidents imprisoned and for ruining the lives of millions of Cubans over generations. “All those who have blood on their hands, all those who have been involved in the death of Cubans in one way or another, must pay,” he declared.

When directly addressing the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, as well as Raúl Castro and the highest-ranking generals of the repressive apparatus, the opposition leader maintained that they should face legal proceedings once a political change occurs in Cuba. However, he emphasized that these proceedings should not be summary or arbitrary. "They must be trials with evidence, with proof, with witnesses, that truly demonstrate their responsibility," he noted.

El Gussi made it clear that he believes in the application of the maximum penalty for the main perpetrators of Cuba's misfortunes, although he acknowledged he is unaware of what legal framework could be applied in a transitional scenario. In any case, he insisted that the punishment should be "the maximum penalty that the law provides."

The statements are part of a strong denunciation against the dictatorship in Cuba, in a context marked by an increase in repression, the imprisonment of dissenters, and growing social discontent both inside and outside the Island. For the dissident, future justice cannot be based on revenge but on truth and the criminal responsibility of those who, in their view, “condemned an entire country to hunger, fear, and exile.”
