A Delta Airlines Boeing 737 was evacuated on Monday at Miami International Airport (MIA) after passengers and crew detected a smell of smoke inside the cabin prior to takeoff.

According to Local 10, Delta flight 1708, heading to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, was carrying 178 passengers and six crew members when the situation necessitated the suspension of departure operations, as confirmed by county authorities.

"The passengers were safely evacuated from the plane via the boarding bridge and returned to the terminal," reported Greg Chin, spokesman for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, who clarified that no injuries were reported.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue emergency teams arrived at the scene and conducted a preventive inspection of the aircraft, while Delta began a technical review to determine the source of the smoke odor. The airline apologized to the passengers and arranged their rebooking on another flight to New York.
