A 22-year-old woman was arrested this week at Miami International Airport (MIA) while attempting to travel to London with more than 60 kilograms of marijuana hidden in her luggage, authorities reported.
The arrested individual was identified as Begum Mulazimoglu, a resident of London, who was about to board a Virgin Atlantic flight to Heathrow Airport, reported El Nuevo Herald.
During an exit inspection, an agent from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detected two hard suitcases that emitted a strong smell of marijuana.
Upon inspecting the luggage, the agents found approximately 130 pounds of cannabis, which is equivalent to about 60 kilograms, vacuum-sealed and distributed across 60 packages inside the two suitcases.
Following the discovery, Mulazimoglu was taken into custody and faces a first-degree felony charge for cannabis trafficking, according to the police report.
The young woman appeared before a judge on Tuesday, one day after her arrest.
