The Cuban regime has called on Havana residents to participate this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in an event at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune, “on behalf of the entire Cuban people,” to condemn what they consider an “imperialist military aggression” by the United States against Venezuela.

Miguel Díaz-Canel repeats the same old script, even though we are in a very different social and historical context. The call was announced by the Presidency of Cuba on the social network X, a few hours after the capture of Nicolás Maduro was confirmed following a U.S. military incursion in Caracas on January 3rd.

Before the announcement, the Cuban leader had posted a message on the same social network condemning the U.S. offensive, describing it as a "criminal attack" and an example of "state terrorism" against the Venezuelan people.

The leader reaffirmed the Cuban regime's unconditional support for chavismo and stated that Cuba "will defend the sovereignty of Venezuela" within what he called the "Latin American Zone of Peace." He concluded his message with the slogan "Homeland or Death! We Shall Overcome!"

For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on his Truth Social account that Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured during a “successfully planned and executed” military operation.

The U.S. president explained that Maduro and Flores were transferred out of Venezuela. Additionally, Trump announced a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, to provide details about the operation.

The military action was coordinated with U.S. security agencies and was carried out “without civilian casualties,” within the framework of what Trump described as a “necessary intervention to restore democracy in Venezuela.”
