Díaz-Canel sends a message of congratulations to Cubans with a request for 2026

Díaz-Canel sends a New Year's message asking Cubans for something somewhat "mystical" for 2026, while the country is facing a severe economic crisis, power outages, and a massive exodus, with no concrete solutions in sight.

The ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel sent a congratulatory message to the Cuban people for the end of the year 2025, declaring what his greatest wish is for the new year.

"May every task we undertake in 2026, from the most complex economic transformations to the simplest acts of solidarity, be infused with the fidelista spirit of struggle, and his profound love for the people," are the words of the leader quoted by the profile on X of the Presidency of Cuba.

The congratulatory message from Miguel Díaz-Canel to the Cuban people, with his usual ideological tone and references to Fidel Castro, once again contrasts sharply with the harsh reality that Cubans are facing at the end of 2025.

While the leader calls for "taking on tasks with a fidelist spirit," Cuba is facing one of the deepest crises in its recent history, characterized by uncontrolled inflation, constant blackouts, productive collapse, and a massive exodus that leaves the country without productive forces.

The appeal to “love for the people” sounds hollow in a context where the majority struggle to obtain food, medicines, or survive without electricity.

The speech, laden with revolutionary slogans, seems more like an attempt to reaffirm the official ideology than a display of empathy or self-criticism regarding the economic and social failures of the model that Díaz-Canel himself advocates.

Once again, the regime resorts to the rhetoric of the past, that supposed “Fidelista spirit of struggle”, instead of providing concrete solutions to the problems that burden the people.

The "economic transformations" mentioned by the leader continue to yield no tangible results for the population, while the gap between the leaders and the average citizen grows wider every day.
