The Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado stated this Friday that she is ready to assume the government of Venezuela alongside the diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia "when the right moment arrives."
The statements were made during a conference at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, one day after her private meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, as reported by Martí Noticias.
"We are facing a moment of challenges, and we will do what is necessary as a legitimate government. Edmundo and I are in constant communication and we have a mandate from the Venezuelan people. We must prepare with our teams both inside and outside the country to take over the government when the right moment arrives," said Machado to journalists and analysts at the conservative center.
The Venezuelan leader described her country's current situation as “difficult and challenging, but historical,” and reaffirmed her conviction that “Venezuela will be free” with the support of the United States.
"We are moving towards the freedom of Venezuela. It is an irreversible process," he stated.
Machado avoided providing details about her conversation with Trump, citing respect for the private nature of the meeting, but confirmed that she reiterated her desire to return to Venezuela "as soon as possible."
"Of course, I insisted on my return. I am ready to be with my people," she declared.
Consulted by a correspondent from Martí Noticias about a message to the Cuban people, she replied: “Cuba will be free”, linking the democratic future of both countries to the definitive fall of the authoritarian regimes in Havana and Caracas.
During his speech, he harshly criticized the energy agreements that have benefited the Cuban regime for years. “For decades, oil was given to Cuba while Venezuela was sinking. Overthrowing a regime supported by the interests of China, Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah is not an easy task, but it is not impossible either,” he stated.
